I love the motto, “it could be worst”. It can always be worse than it is. Love your body today for what it can do, for how it looks and for what it provides. I spent a lot of time in my 30s not loving my body and certainly not taking advantage of what could have done. Now that I am in my 40s, I try to carpe diem, seize the day for what I can do. I have a bad back and that prevents some activities, but rather than focus on that, I try to do everything else I can, while I can.
Make a List of Things You Like About Yourself
Hang a list of what you like about yourself up right beside the affirmations! You have some really awesome qualities you shouldn’t be overlooking. You are amazing! Go ahead, start that long list of wonderfuls!
Beauty is NOT Skin Deep
Beauty is so much more than what you see when you look in the mirror. Your body is a vessel for your beautiful self to reside in and what you have inside reflects through your body. Allow your light to shine bright to help others around you as well as your own body self-image!
Rather than measuring success by how you look, measure how you FEEL. Let’s face it, our body is aging and constantly changing. We can’t stop all aging, but by making healthy choices we will be the best we can be!
Surround Yourself with Positive People
Misery loves company and so if you have negative people around you, they will pull you down with them. My favorite thing to do is laugh! Laughing creates positive thoughts, changes negatives into a positive so bad days won’t pull you down so much. Work on seeing the glass half full instead of half empty and enjoy life to the fullest!
Comfortable Clothes You Love
Choose clothes you feel comfortable in rather than forcing yourself to wear what doesn’t suit you just because it’s in style. I am the worst when it comes to keeping up with fashion. Thankfully, my adult daughter helps me from time to time, but I don’t like shopping and therefore that alone keeps me from staying up to date with styles. Comfort and sensibility are what I enjoy wearing. Most of the time I am in workout clothes or riding clothes!
Activities You Enjoy for Exercise
There are loads of different types of ways to exercise. So many styles and methods. While I am a huge advocate for strength training to boost metabolism for women over 40, I know there are so many other ways to tone muscles and lose weight with cardio. Experiment and find something you really enjoy so you don’t have to dread it.
Don’t Compare Your Body Image with Someone Else
In the age of social media, it has become easier for people to compare their self and lives to others. Social media allows us to only share what we deem good enough, and this can cause a misleading representation of other people’s lives. Body positivity, especially in women, can be hard to achieve in this current landscape.
However, with new strides and working together as women, body positivity can be achievable. Having positive fitness goals and making healthier decisions can not only improve your overall physical health but can also have a positive impact on your mental health.
